Silent conflict between Mokri and Saidi’s partisans in MSP’s congress
Leader of Algeria’s MSP party Abu Djerra Soltani Thursday said he bears the responsibility of failures since he headed it in 2003 and succeeded late Mahfoud Nahnah.
“My brothers honored in 2003 me by electing me to be their leader and serve my country. Today, I am asking them to exempt me so that I would have more time to serve what is larger than the movement,” he added.
He called for a “consensual constitution” to meet people’s ambitions. “The essential problem lies in the nature of the ruling regime which speaks about pluralism but does not believe in it.”
National personalities, representatives of some political parties and civil society organizations and delegations from many Arab, Muslim and European countries attended the three-day-congress.
The movement’s future projects and its general policy are expected to be determined during the congress along with the adoption of interior regulations. A new leader will be elected as well.
Member of the MSP’s Consultation Council Mounir Ait Yaali said he hopes that Soltani will be the council president and Saidi will be the party’s leader. Yet, this hope will clash with Abderrezak Mokri’s partisans who want to seize the opportunity.
There is an internal conflict about election-related procedures. Mokri’s partisans want the MSP’s leader be elected by the congress representatives. Saidi’s partisans want the election process be carried out inside the Consultation Council.
