Sonatrach-Saipem Scandal: Claudio Discalzi Is Summoned As A Witness By Milan Court
Italian court of Milan summoned the executive director of the government Energy Company Eni, Claudio Descalzi, to appear as a witness in the international corruption and bribes scandal of Sonatrach-Saipam or the so-called the 200 million euro bribery scandal.
Italian news agency ANSA reported on Monday that Discalzi attended the courtroom, where a trial session had was held for the same case, after he was summoned to appear as a witness.
The court was considering whether the CEO of Eni would be heard later as a normal witness and will testify alone as a witness in the presence of a lawyer who will accompany him during his testimony.
Presence of the CEO of Eni at the Milan Court is seen as the first of its kind in this case, which has so far noticed the absence of all other defendants, like the former Executive Director of the same complex, Paulo Scaroni, former Director of Eni for North Africa, Antonio Villa, and former operations officer of Saipem, Pietro Varoni, and its former CEO, Pietro Franco Tali, and the three Algerians, who are Farid Bedjaoui, Samir Ouriad and Omar Habbour.
Proceedings of this trial took more than a year without an end of the chapters yet, as the time that was taken by the trial so far is one year and 3 months after it was launched on January,25, 2016.
