Sonatrach workers to get bonus

Algerian energy minister Chakib Khalil gave instructions to Chief executive officers on companies annex to Sonatrach group in the south to speed up bonus procedures for workers.

  • According to the decision No 24 dated on April 18, workers living at bases surrounding oil fields will benefit from bonuses.
  • Bonuses will be delivered as big sums depending on the nature of jobs and work places. For example, workers in Ain Amennass and Ain Saleh get more money than those in Hassi Messaoud or Hassi R’mel.
  • The decision which was approved by the Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia on July 27, 2008 is expected to come into force later.
  • General inspector of the energy ministry Sidi Mohamed Belkehla had asked Sonatrach’s CEO Mohamed Meziane to implement Khalil’s instruction as soon as possible, according to the same document.
  • Sonatrach’s general department convened human resources directors to prepare bonus calculations. The meeting came up with an action plan set to be concretised for every worker, Echorouk has learnt.
  • Oil workers in southern Algeria considered the bonus as their main claim over the past few years. They warned to go on strike in all their workshops.
