Spanish coast guards last month intercepted 260 Algerian illegal immigrants who left their home town of Oued R’Hiou (western Algeria) from Oran shores during the presidential campaign trail, reliable sources revealed.

  • The first group of immigrants seized the opportunity of the visit of the president-candidate Abdelaziz Bouteflika to the town of Oran, in order to quit the Algerian soil, while the other groups quit the country a few days before the elections day that took place on April 9.
  • The same sources added that the young immigrants gave the amount of 1200 Euros each to a smuggler who transported them on his boat carrying 30 individuals in each trip.
  • The smuggling boatman, who garnered a huge sum of money through this operation, was arrested by the Spanish authorities along with the illegal immigrants and were put in detention on charges of clandestine immigration.
  • Their age do not exceed 35, according to their families.
