The dramatic shift in the French and Spanish positions on the Western Sahara issue is still being analysed and read by observers of this file, especially at the Spanish level, given the specificity of the Sahrawi issue in this country which is considered by the United Nations the colonial power charged with managing the occupied Sahrawi lands.

Although the shift in the Spanish position has become a past event, Paris’s decision to follow the path of Madrid has brought the entire issue back to the forefront. It is worth noting that an exciting article written by the Spanish journalist, José Antonio Gómez, in the newspaper “Diario 16” titled, “Sanchez and Macron submitted to the King of Morocco.”

The article contains a lot of realism and boldness. Still, it is accompanied by clues, evidence and legal texts, which make the two French steps, and before them the Spanish ones, lacking in legal and political merit. Among the things stated in the article: “The presidents most repudiated by their people have positioned themselves in favour of handing over Western Sahara to Morocco, which is absolutely illegal in international law.”

The writer tries to read the background of the shift in the positions of Madrid and Paris on the Sahrawi issue. He explains: “Two keys justify the submission of the two European leaders to the Moroccan satrap, a submission so intense that it has changed from a diplomatic relationship to BDSM sex (Bondage; Discipline-Domination; Submission-Sadism; Masochism).”

The first key, according to the writer, is the pressure exerted by the United States in favour of the illegal claims regarding the Moroccan regime’s alleged sovereignty over Western Sahara. He based this on how the letter that Pedro Sanchez addressed to Mohammed VI was written, in which he announced a radical shift in Spain’s position; “It cannot be forgotten that the letter that Pedro Sánchez sent to Mohamed VI in which he announced the radical change in Spain’s policy was full of “copy and paste” of what was indicated by the Secretary of State of the United States”.

The second key is Moroccan intelligence’s spying via the “Pegasus” software on the mobile phones of both Pedro Sanchez and Emmanuel Macron. The writer wonders: “What is in those phones that two of the main nations in Europe become subject to a third-world country? In Spain, the National Court tried to archive the case due to the lack of cooperation from the Zionist entity, but it was forced to reopen it after learning the results of the investigation that is still being carried out in France.”

“The point is that Sanchez and Macron, two men with great professional, personal and political harmony (not in vain have both betrayed the ideological essences of socialism and social democracy) are the favourite concubines of Mohammed VI. Last week it became public that Emmanuel Macron has formally recognized Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara. The French president considers that the present and future of Western Sahara fall within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty […] Autonomy is the only basis for a solution to the conflict. Consequently, France denies the self-determination of the Sahara, which is what international law indicates for territories that have not yet been decolonized”, the Spanish journalist explained.

He went on to explain: “It must remember that Western Sahara is Spanish territory for all purposes. Interior Minister Fernando Grande Marlasca himself, when he was a judge of the National Court, issued an order in which he clearly stated that “Spain remains the administrative power of the territory and, as such, until the period of decolonization ends, the obligations contained in Articles 73 and 74 of the Charter of the United Nations, including the provision of protection for its nationals against all forms of abuses for which it must extend its territorial jurisdiction for events such as those referred to in the complaint to that this procedure is contracted”.

According to Marlaska, “The legal status of Western Sahara in the terms indicated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office corresponds to that stated in the letter dated January 29, 2002, addressed to the president of the United Nations Security Council and the Deputy Secretary General for Legal Affairs, which is expressly included in the background of the recent ruling of the European Court of Human Rights”. However, Macron and Sanchez are considered supporters of the Moroccanness of Western Sahara, he wondered: “Sanchez and Macron continue to be champions of the Moroccan demands that were, at the time, firmly supported by US President Donald Trump, someone who, in theory, should be the antithesis of the French and Spanish presidents. But…, what Pegasus has united…”, in reference to the fact that they were held hostage because their phones were hacked by the Moroccan regime’s intelligence services.

The Spanish journalist added that what was issued by the Prime Minister of his country more than two years ago “In 2022, Pedro Sánchez perpetrated one of the greatest political and humanitarian betrayals in the history of Spain on the back of a winged horse. He also did so by letter where he stated that he considered “the Moroccan autonomy initiative, presented in 2007, as the most serious, credible and realistic basis for the resolution of the conflict. Sánchez, to cover his personal and political interests, has forgotten the responsibilities that Spain has regarding the Sahara from its position as the sole administrative power of the territory”.

It must be remembered that the Madrid Agreement, by which Spain ceded the administration of the Sahara to Morocco and Mauritania, was declared null and void by the United Nations.

However, Sánchez and Macron continue to be champions of the Moroccan demands that were, at the time, firmly supported by US President Donald Trump, someone who, in theory, should be the antithesis of the French and Spanish presidents. But…, what Pegasus has united…

In 2022, Pedro Sánchez perpetrated one of the greatest political and humanitarian betrayals in the history of Spain on the back of a winged horse. He also did so by letter where he stated that he considered “the Moroccan autonomy initiative, presented in 2007, as the most serious, credible and realistic basis for the resolution” of the conflict. The UN has always affirmed that the Western Sahara conflict must be resolved within the parameters set by international legality and the solution proposed by Morocco of a la carte autonomy, to which Pedro Sánchez has joined like a fanatic, is contrary to as stipulated by the United Nations”.

“The Spanish and French presidents, subjugated by Mohamed VI, have also forgotten that it is the UN that leads the solution and that the Security Council resolutions provide for the recognition of the right of self-determination of the Sahrawi people. However, both Sánchez and Macron, with their unilateral statements, put stones on the path towards the only solution to this conflict: self-determination, independence and recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic as a State. To do this, the Sahrawi people, and only the Sahrawi people, must decide in a referendum. Morocco cannot intervene or assimilate powers in the administration of the territory. What’s more, said consultation must be convened by Spain”.
