Spokesman for Egyptian foreign ministry: el-Sisi can not talk on behalf of army
Ambassador Badr Abdelati, spokesman for the Egyptian foreign ministry said former military chief Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s remarks reported by Sada el Balad newspaper are “baseless.”
“I am very sorry for that. Those reports are baseless and illogic,” Abdelati told Echorouk on the phone.
“As a spokesman for the Egyptian foreign ministry, I am not allowed to make official statements so that I will not support any eminent candidate for the presidency,” he added.
“As an Egyptian citizen, I don’t think that el-Sisi said that. Those reports are false. How can an eminent candidate who resigned from the army make statements?”
“I hope that the Algerian media and people will not believe that.”
Retired general Jamel Madhloum said the former education minister’s advisor Ibrahim Rajeh made false statements.
“Some try to seize the opportunity to hit a national man like el-Sisi. As Algeria did not consider the Muslim brotherhood as a terrorist group, some parties want to mislead people,” he added.
“Relation between Egypt and Algeria has been glorious over time. No one can say or believe such words.”
