Stolen cars smuggled from Europe to Algeria across Morocco

The National Gendarmerie forces last week dismantled an international network of dealing with stolen logbooks in Europe and smuggling them to Morocco then to Algeria.

  • Secretary General of Sania district in the province of Oran (west of Algiers) was arrested along with three employees.
  • The leader of the network who works as a building contractor in Meghnia province (west of Algiers) was the main coordinator and in charge of giving “assignments” to his elements.
  • Another contractor was identified in charge of smuggling the stolen cars from Morocco to the border town of Meghnia but he is on the run, Echorouk has learnt.
  • Investigators say the criminal network works with an organised plan. Algerians and foreigners living in Europe especially France steal cars and smuggle them across Spain to Morocco. They work in coordination with smugglers in Morocco who receive the cars and take them to the city of Ouedjda next to Algeria.
