Stringent measures to protect consumers during summer season

The national gendarmerie commander in chief, General Ahmed Boustila has ordered his services to intensify control operations on the quality of food commodities during the summer season and forbid their sale on main streets and beaches.

  • These measures are part of the so called “Dolphin plan” designed to protect the population from several cases of intoxication that tend to increase during this season.
  • Reliable sources from the national gendarmerie revealed that patrols intensified their controls on refrigerator vans to see whether these products meet the refrigeration chain requirements, and multiply their interventions on different fast foods and other ice cream shops.
  • The same services concentrated their efforts in the borders where different food stuffs are smuggled from Morocco in the summer season including Water- melon, Melon and oranges that caused several cases of intoxications in the past because they are generally irrigated by sewage.
  • This battery of measures comes against the background of mass intoxications cases witnessed in Algeria every summer season. Estimates released by the World Health Organization show that Algeria records an average of 3 to 4 thousand cases of intoxication per year that cause the death of 500 among children
