Succession covetousness triggers crisis at Algerian workers’ union
Signs of dissidence and internal crisis appeared between Secretary General of the Central Union Abdelmadjid Sidi Said and a number of the national secretarial office of the General Union for Algerian Workers.
Sidi Said said sanction decisions are taken and many members are dismissed unfairly. This was understood as a direct letter to the organization bureau chaired by Tayeb Hmarnia.
Sidi Said talked about an intention to succeed him. “There is someone waiting behind me. They say I am ill because they want my job.
The leader of workers’ union have been recently in Switzerland for medical treatment.
The conflict between Sidi Siad and the secretarial bureau members was fuelled by a mobilization campaign launched by the Central Union to convince provincial and local unions to amend retirement system. Sidi Said did not agree with them.
Echorouk has learnt that this is a conflict about the position of Secretary General.
