Swine flu kills 24 and hits 276 others

Swine flu in Algeria has killed 24 people so far while other476 cases of H1N1 virus bearers have been confirmed by the ad hoc committee set by the health ministry.

  • A nationwide investigation over the pandemic has been launched by the relevant ministry in a move to clearly diagnose cases of seasonal flu and swine flu ones.

  • A report released by the ad hoc committee in charge of the follow up of the pandemic in Algeria, has revealed that swine was blamed for the killing of five other people.
  •  
  • One of them, a 66 year old man from the province of Setif (eastern Algeria) has succumbed to swine flu after from cardiac problems and respiratory complications before succumbing to swine flu.
  •  
  • Another lady (54) from the same province who was suffering from an incurable disease, died of H1N1, while a 23 old woman from the province of Tipaza ( 80 Kms west of Algiers) is counted among the victims.

  • The two last cases include a 46 old man found dead in his house and an expectant woman who died soon after giving birth to her baby by caesarean. She contracted the virus few days before bringing forth her baby.

  • The ministry has giving the go ahead for the distribution of the first batch of H1N1 vaccines after being controlled by Pasteur institute here in Algiers, but the vaccination campaign didn’t start yet.
