Syrian community in Algeria demonstrates against Assad’s regime
The supporting commission of Syrian people’s claims for reforms and change in Algeria will stage a sit-in out of the Syrian embassy in Algiers on Saturday.
- The protesters will call for stopping killings, arrests, torture and terror against the Syrian people and lifting the blockade on towns and villages in the country.
- The commission’s member Salem Abu Dad Salem told Echorouk on the phone on Tuesday their position “is the same position of the Syrian people in the country. Claims are for freedom, dignity and democracy.”
- He stressed the necessity of stopping killings, arrests and torture before beginning dialogue.
- “How can dialogue be held under guns? A total of 11,000 Syrians are in detentions and about 1,000 others were killed. Dialogue can not be held before stopping killing,” he said.
- He also said residents of Daraa town discovered three collective cemeteries and posted them on the Internet. Yet, Syrian authorities surrounded the place and prevented people from going there.
- Daraa had been under blockade for 25 days without water, food and electricity.
- “The Syrian regime has not shot Israel since 1973. Its existence is linked to Israel’s protection,” said Abu Dad.
- He quoted the Syrian president’s cousin Rami Makhlouf as saying “Syria’s security depends on Israel’s security.”
- He said the Syrian people do not want to topple the regime but they want change, killings to be stopped and then dialogue.
- “The unbelievable repression of demonstrators, people started raising regime toppling slogans.”
