Syrian Defector Students in Algeria Form Their Own “Independent Unionâ€
Several Syria descent students have recently defected on the National Syrian Students Union in Algeria, and formed, instead, the Union for Syrian Independent Students.
Representatives of the defector students told Echorouk that they received threats from the Syrian Embassy in Algeria, and find, recurrently, hinders while trying to issue documents from the embassy.
The defector students say they are about 80 out of 10 Syrian students in Algeria. They further assumed that they receive daily threats from the embassy staff, including the consul and official in charge of security.
The students said the embassy of Syria in Algeria mistreats them, as it has opened investigations on the defectors and their family members in Syria.
The embassy hampered the transfer of the dead body of a Syrian student who died in a road accident in the province of Batna, they assumed, praising, however, the help of local authorities, teachers and employees in Batna University, to transfer the corps to Syria.
The defector Syrian students in Algeria said they have scheduled several pro-revolution sit-ins and demonstrations all over universities in Algeria and abroad, to protest against the crackdown of the regime of Assad which lost legitimacy, they noted.
The Union for Syrian Independent Students is due to mark a sit-in Thursday near the Embassy of Syria in Algiers, the defectors students revealed.
