Syrian opposition Politician Abdelkarim Rihawi to Echorouk: “Erdogan’s position just a media talk and Saudi Arabia came lateâ€
Syrian young protesters does not expect much from the new Turkish position, not even the Saudi position, because the two countries have bilateral interests that they seek to preserve, at the expense of other priorities, hours before his arrest, Abdelkarim Rihawi, head of the Syrian Association for Human Rights told Echorouk.
In his response to a question by Echorouk on the Turkish “firm” position, as described by the Turkish President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan, he added; “ The Syrian protesters does not expect much from this position which shows a fluctuation between a push and a pull, and the lack of clarity in its features. The Turkish PM supports the Syrian regime in many cases, such as supporting the idea of the existence of armed groups and conspiracy against Syria. Turkey has bilateral interests with Syria and it is unable to neglect or overcome its interests. What is happening under the table is greater than what we see. Such positions will remain just a media talk, far from what happens in the Syrian streets”.
Concerning the Saudi Arabia’s last statements which said that “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia does not accept what is happening is Syria”, the Syrian opposition politician asserted that “The event is greater than just justified by reasons”, adding that “The future of Syria between two options only, either choose willingly wisdom or being drift into the depths of chaos and loss”.
“The Saudi position is too late because this country and all Arab countries, especially Middle East, always supported the Syrian regime and colluded with it. The Syrian people, since two weeks, went out to the streets in a protest against this position under the title “Your Silence is killing us”, however; this last move by western countries, Turkey and Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries encourages the Syrian people and conveys a message that “You are not alone in your plight”. Syrians are hoping these moves will form great pressures on the Syrian regime which should find a peaceful solution”.
With regard to the almost complete absence of the Syrian opposition, whether in Syria or abroad, Rihawi explained; “The Syrian opposition do not have one position, it is divided and does not exist in the field. Revolution of youth has achieved in months what all Syrians failed to reach over the past 40 years. Today, young Syrians are trying to catch up with the revolution and float on the surface, and even if they will reach an agreement with the regime, rebellious people will not accept compromises. If the regime wanted real solution, it has to talk to people and not to the opposition because opposition cannot even succeed in bringing people in one demonstration, so how can it bring them for months”.
The Syrian opposition politician asserted that all Syrian localities, without exception, notice massive demonstrations after Taraweeh prayers, and the voice of all Syrians united on a key demand which is overthrowing the regime; “ They condemned the crimes committed against their families and relatives. For the first time since the beginning of the holy month Ramadan, youth of revolution came out in peaceful demonstrations after the Dawn prayers. They came out from several localities and from Damascus and even from Deir Al-Zour besieged by the armed forces”.
