Teachers At Algerian International School Of Paris Facing Specter of Arbitrary Dismissal

Algerian school teachers in France are engaged in a protest movement against what they called “the tragic circumstances of Paris”, by appealing to the Minister of National Education, Nouria Benghebrit, to personally intervene to end the ordeal they have been experiencing every day because of the unacceptable and irresponsible practices on the part of the management of the School.

Indeed, the latter do not receive any allowances for overtime and are excluded from the benefits of the collective bargaining agreement. And therefore they demand to be subjected to the laws of the Algerian school as pledged by the relevant ministry before their appointment.

So, they called on the authorities concerned to solve these urgent problems by making them retrieve their labor rights which are being flouted arbitrarily by the management of their School in Paris, as they put it.

They also stressed the need to take account of overtime work they usually perform beyond the 18 hour legal education task and also to take into account of the hours spent in educational research…

They also ask for the recovery of their social rights and benefit increases every two years at least to be in line with the cost of living, as well as the payment of 50% by the School of their season ticket for urban transport and an end the indiscriminate sanctions meted out by the School’s management which has up to now turned a deaf ear to their bona-fidé claims… 

The latter has even brandished the threat of outright dismissal against the protesting teachers, they affirmed.

To recall, the opening of the International School of Algeria in Paris in October 2001, was an event that was a milestone in the history of the Algerian community in France and in the action of the Embassy of Algeria to Paris. This school, whose acronym is “EIAP”, was created by decree initialed by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on October 17, 2001.
