Terrorists lost their capacities in Algeria, says minister
Dahou Ould Kablia, Algerian interior minister
Algerian interior minister Dahou Ould Kablia Thursday said terrorist groups largely lost their nuisance capacities in Algeria thanks to security forces operations.
- Terrorist groups which have existed since the 1990’s largely lost their nuisance capacities inside the country thanks to the army and other security forces effort, Dahou Ould Kablia told a meeting with prefects.
- Violence intensity has been considerably decreasing in Algeria since the implementation of the Charter for the National Reconciliation in 2006, he added.
- He also said Algeria had done “everything” to secure its border with its neighbours in the Sahel region. This is meant to prevent any infiltration of members of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) in the country.
- “Important human and physical means were deployed to reinforce security on our borders and prohibit intrusion.”
- Ould Kakblia believes that countries in the Sahel region should step up coordination.
- A meeting is expected to be held between Algeria, Mauritania, Niger and Mali and their partners early in September in Algiers to organise anti-terrorist cooperation in the Sahel region.
