Terrorists seek prosecution ban to surrender

Many terrorists’ families say their relatives want to surrender but they are afraid of being prosecuted and going to jail.

  • The families have been contacting terrorists in mountains to convince them to surrender and benefit from the Charter for Peace and the National Reconciliation.
  • The family of a terrorist says he is hesitating as he got many sentences in absentia. “That means he will spend the rest of his life in prison,” his brother told Echorouk, adding that he called the police which gave him guarantees.
  • Many families have recently stepped up contacts following military operations at the terrorist strongholds.
  • “Contacts are now limited and careful. He told his brother he was ready to surrender,” a terrorist’s mother said.
  • “We are waiting for him but we are afraid that he will be killed in those military operations,” she added.
  • Other families said some terrorists ask authorities to provide shelters for them as they lost all their properties and money.
  • A security officer said strict instructions were given to all the security forces to be flexible with surrendering terrorists in coordination with their families.
