Algeria’s University receives more than one million students, including 134 981 new students who succeeded in their BAC exam.

• The proportion of females is estimated to 57.7%, while the reception capabilities and pedagogical services and university sector of the higher education and scientific research reaches 1.200.000 pedagogical seats, and about 510.000 beds for shelter, as the government deployed about 35.000 professors, in order to train them across the different long and short educational steps, with the rate of one professor per 30 students.
• Statistics of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research shows that the rate of 37.44% of the university students, the equivalent of 49.000 students, obtained their first choice and 76.50% of the newly registered students get their five choices, 98.49% students deposited their choice cards, with the equivalent of 132866 students, as the number of the students who did not deposit their choice cards reaches 2024 students.
• The Ministry of Higher Education shows that these students choose to join other institutions outside the higher education sector, as 265.000 students have been accepted among the preparatory sections in the context of the university registrations.
• The Ministry of Higher Education confirmed that over 70.000 students have been directed towards the “LMD” system with the rate of 52.97%
• The university year 2009/2010 was supported by opening a university centre and 4 national high schools and 56 university residences. In the context of deepening reforms and rehabilitation of the Algerian university in order to join the level of the international universities, the ministry opened preparatory sections for the national high schools, particularly in the field of sciences, technology, economic and commerce sciences, and management, as well as preparatory programs in the information, architecture, and creating new high schools in journalism and political sciences.
• In the area of the scientific training beyond the graduation and scientific research, it was decided the opening of 2240 positions in the third degree “LMD” and 2450 positions in the medical speciality, as the number of schools of Doctorate reaches 83, to cover the total specialities.
• Figures by the Ministry of Higher Education indicate that the number of the new registered students who did not meet their choices is estimated to 7.54%, as they have been directed to other proposals.
