The condemnation of the Makhzen authorities’ criminalization of those who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and reject normalization with the occupying Zionist entity, after 13 activists were sentenced to six months suspended sentence and a fine, at a time when Morocco presides over the International Human Rights Council, amid questions and wonder about what the Makhzen state can offer to human rights in the world when it does not respect them.
In this context, the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (BDS) Morocco, in a statement, condemned all forms of repression and intimidation attempts by the Moroccan authorities to silence activists who oppose all forms of normalization with the Zionist entity, calling on the Makhzen to “unconditionally drop all prosecutions against the activists concerned.”
The BDS movement expresses its absolute solidarity and condemnation of the unjust sentences issued against the activists of the Moroccan Front for the Support of Palestine and Against Normalization, and considers that “the trial reflects the falsity of official rhetoric, which claims to support the Palestinian cause, but in reality makes military alliances with the occupation and prosecutes anyone who calls for its opposition.”
In conclusion, BDS Morocco emphasized that it will continue to confront the occupation on all fronts by calling for boycotting it at all levels and imposing sanctions on it until the Palestinian people gain their freedom and establish their state with Jerusalem as its capital.
For its part, the National Action Group for Palestine affirmed in a statement that these unjust sentences against 13 anti-normalization activists “constitute a serious infringement of freedom of expression, a blow to the right to peaceful protest, and a violation of fundamental rights and freedoms.”
The statement adds that these verdicts “represent a blatant contradiction with the legal reality, as prosecutions against those involved in supporting the Zionist entity are delayed, despite the existence of documented complaints against them filed by civil bodies, without activating the necessary legal procedures.”
The group expresses its complete rejection of these “unjust verdicts” and declares its absolute solidarity with these activists who embody the voice of the free Moroccan people and their will to reject normalization. It also commends their role in exposing the accomplices of the occupation entity and its brutal crimes targeting innocent Palestinians, as part of a heinous policy of genocide and ethnic cleansing that has been condemned by the whole world.
