The Multilateral Investments Guarantee Agency : Algeria ranks first among African and Arab counties: Foreign investments reach $2.31b

Algeria ranked first among Arab and North African countries in terms of foreign direct investment inflows, reaching $2.31b during 2009, according to the latest World Bank reports, issued on Thursday “Investments in the world and political risks”.

The Multilateral Investments Guarantee Agency, belonging to the World Bank group and promotion of private sector explained in its report for 2010 that foreign investments in Algeria noticed a significant increase between 2002 and 2009, reaching $1.07b in 2002 and $630b in 2003, $880b in 2004, $1.08b in 2006, $1.66b in 2007, $2.65b in 2008 and $2.31b in 2009.

 At the global level, the total value of foreign direct investments reaches $1085b in 2009 (compared to $738b in 2002). Developed countries got the largest share through allocating $731b for foreign investments, compared to $354b in developing countries.
