The Upcoming Parliament Should Incriminate the French Colonization, Official
The parliament which is to be elected in 10 May should adopt a law criminalizing the French colonial rule in Algeria, Secretary General of the National War Veteran Organization (ONM), Said Abadou, stated Tuesday.
“We deeply wish that the upcoming parliament to adopt a law that incriminate the French colonialism,” Mr Abadou told the international radio channel.
Such a draft law has been submitted in 13 January 2010, but remained in the shelves.
“The law is a patriotic act and an answer to the law glorifying colonialism, adopted by the French parliament in 2005,” the veteran said.
The official further deplored the fact that “France’s snub to handing over archives of the colonial era, to Algeria, stands as a violation to international laws.”
“The ONM is disposed, in collaboration with authorities, to resort to international civil society organizations in bid to restitute the archives,” Mr Abadou added.
As for the French nuclear tests in the desert of Algeria, he suggested to set up a French Algerian health commission tasked with the identification of human and environmental casualties of the tests, adding that “France should be committed to compensate Algeria government.”
As many as 17 nuclear tests were conducted between 1960 and 1967 by France in the desert, Algerian searchers say.
