Head of the National Consultative Commission for Human Rights Promotion Faruk Ksentini said the US State Department report about human trafficking is “false and misleading.” “Algeria’s history is clean in this regard,” he told the Algerian radio channel.

“Algeria denies those baseless facts and serious accusations in the US State Department report. There is no correct point in it. Algeria has never dealt with human trafficking. Its history is clean in this regard. It is unbelievable that the Algerian people’s democratic republic does that. Those who made this report should review their dark history which was marked by the largest human trafficking operations,” said Ksentini.

He added that the US should not go too far. It must be aware that Algeria is a respectful country and can not accept such accusations.

This comes as the US State Department Thursday released the 2016 Human Trafficking Report. It ranked Algeria with other countries including Syria, Djibouti, Mauritania, Iran, Russia, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Burma, Haiti and North Korea among countries which do not respect the law on the protection of human trafficking victims and do not make important efforts in this regard.
