The Finance Ministry has notified the General Secretaries of the various Ministries as well as the Walis or Governors of the Republic through a correspondence confirming the required enforcement of austerity measures and the strict rationalization of expenditures from the operating budgets, for the year 2016.

The latter were duly apprised of the additional regulations worked out by the Finance Ministry regarding the sectors concerned with austerity and rationalization of expenditures in the context of the government’s ongoing efforts to bolster the internal and external financial balances of the country.

The Ministry’s stern notification warned the latter against any acquisition of new vehicles as well as new equipment and furniture in their respective departments, while urging them to slash spending to the lowest point at the local and regional level.

Non important and non vital acquisitions by provincial, regional or municipal official structures will be frozen until further notice in line with this new ministerial austerity-oriented injunction, well-informed sources told “Echorouk”.

The services of the Ministry of Finance had previously sent a letter to senior monetary executives in charge of overseeing the state budget, enjoining them to embark on a second “cleansing” investment process that didn’t stem from the elapsed five-year period and urging for the sealing of the relevant operations by December 31, 2015.

As a result, this overhauling procedure has made these investment projects to become a thing of the past due to the ongoing austerity juncture and the dire financial situation now besetting the country.
