Thousands of Chinese nationals hired in Algerian construction sites

The number of Chinese workers in different construction sites across Algeria has reached 10000, most of them hired by international companies that started projects in the sector, reliable sources from the housing ministry revealed.

• But this number has decreased in comparison with the past because many of them turned to salesmen and rented shops with the view to making business with Chinese products brought from their home country.

• The Chinese work force is taking the lead in Algeria with 45% of the overall percentage of foreign workers operating in Algeria, followed by the Egyptians 11% then Italians 5.3% while Syrians represent 5.2 % of the overall workforce. Estimates show that the rate of the US, French and Philippine nationals established in Algeria is negligible and doesn’t exceed 3%.

• While the number of the Chinese workers in the country witnesses a constant rise, the rate of joblessness in Algeria has reached an alarming proportion. Estimates released by the National Office of Statistics revealed that the number of jobless Algeria nears 1.240.000, 00 while the official number of job applicants has reached 600.000.
