Trafficking cells import forged banknotes from China, India to dump the Algerian cattle markets

National gendarmerie and security services warn of the promotion of forged banknotes of the category 1000 and 2000 ZDZ in the markets of selling livestock, across the various cities of the country, as security reports indicate that the cells of promoting counterfeited currency intensified their activity in recent weeks that are leading up to Eid al-Adha, with the complicity of international cells that have introduced considerable amounts of currency of the category 1000 and 2000 ZDZ which have been counterfeited in China, India and Niger.

Official sources from the leadership of the National Gendarmerie said that the latter issued strict instructions to the regional leaders and the leaders of provincial groups to intensify its presence in the markets in order to cut the road and thwart fraud that is carried out by the cells of promoting forged banknotes, especially on the occasion of Eid al-Adha through “intensification of control on people and vehicles especially in the security checkpoints, with strict inspection of the livestock markets.

These instructions came upon the dismantling of cells that are specialized in forging banknotes, and which admitted that they carried out operations of the promotion of thousands of counterfeited banknotes of the category 1000 and 2000 ZDZ in the retail and wholesale markets for livestock.

Security services dismantled, during the first week of September, according to statistics that were obtained by Echorouk, on Saturday, over 60 cells including 25 local, 18 regional and 17 national cells, and arrested 85 people of different ages, 68 of whom were jailed.

Investigations also reveal the implication of international cells in the forgery of banknotes of the category 1000 ZDZ from China, India, and Niger, which activity extends to several border cities in the east and west, along the lines of Tlemcen, Naama, Tebessa and Souk Ahras.

Investigations also found that these cells were able to dump the national market with counterfeit currency through smuggling them across the rugged and unguarded paths, where the security authorities seized more than 8,000 banknote of the national currency with a value of approximately one billion and a half million ZDZ.

Same sources said that counterfeiting cells are targeting major markets for the sale of cattle and they are waiting for the approach of Eid al-Adha, for the promotion of considerable quantities of counterfeited banknotes of various categories and in particular the 1000 ZDZ, which are used in abundance in the sale and purchase of large numbers of livestock.
