Tunisia’s current situation revived the market of fuel smuggling

Tunisia’s current situation noticed an increased activity of fuel smugglers across the borders with Algeria.

Owners of oil stations in the border regions warned of a degradation due to the queues and violent fights to obtain some fuel which is obviously directed to the eastern borders for smuggling.

Owners of private oil stations who met last week end in Bir Elatter said that the problem is the continuous queue, as workers suffer daily altercations by hundreds of drivers and devices which become subject to damage, prompting some of them to put iron cordons to their devices, despite the illegality of the process.

In this context, an oil station’s owner in Algiers said he called upon Naftal to stop supplying his station with oil to avoid any violent disputes which may lead to deaths.

Furthermore, the situation is not subject to a specific program as far as it is subject to personal relationships, according to them, and the capacity of owners to supply his station.

“It is strange to see that a truck, supplying oil from Tebessa to Bir Elater, is often disrupted or late in an isolated region”, a private oil station’s owner said.
