A host of Algerian tourists are still complaining against the ill-treatment on the part of some ill-advised Tunisian security elements, the latest of which occurred on Tuesday, and targeted an Algerian citizen hailing from Oued Souf province in the Bahira 1 district, in the eastern suburbs of the Tunisian capital Tunis, with a Tunisian policeman accusing him of plotting to carry out a criminal act against a nearby Company premises.

According to our interlocutor, an Algerian tourist called “Ch. F” who was accompanied by his family consisting of his wife and three children stopped his “Hyundai Accent” vehicle at a cafe in an upscale neighborhood of Tunis, but abruptly a Tunisian policeman assailed him with a barrage of insults and profanities in front of his family members, due to a stop in front of a cafe, by vehemently blaming the Algerian tourist for parking his vehicle in prohibited places, notably near the headquarters of a Company.

The Tunisian policeman then engaged in reckless accusations, and even accused the Algerian tourist of being a “terrorist” because the latter just stopped by to drink a cup of coffee with his family members at the nearby cafe, while at the same moment and curiously enough, there arrived on the spot a Tunisian-registered car, whose driver serenely parked close to the impounded Algerian car, without being subjected to any recrimination on the part of the same policeman who turned a blind eye.

This hapless Algerian citizen then sought to lodge a formal complaint against this zealous and disrespectful Tunisian policeman but he was unfortunately stymied by a set of red-tape hurdles in the relevant legal Tunisian jurisdiction.
