Tunisian smuggles 128 kg of drugs at Algiers port

The criminal court of Algiers is expected to deal shortly with a case pertaining to an international drug smuggling ring. Three defendants are involved in this case, and two of them are still wanted by security services.

  • The three accused are involved in possessing and selling drugs.  According to information available to Echorouk, they tried to smuggle 128 kg of cannabis from Oran, west of Algeria, via Algiers to France and the Spanish city of Alicante.
  • A 24 year old French-Tunisian “A.B”  living in Lyon, France, was arrested in Algiers port on the 19th June 2007 when he was leaving Algeria towards Alicante on board of the ship “Euro Express”, belonging to the Spanish Maritime Company.
  • After inspection, the Algerian customs found that the red car type Toyota land cruiser owned by the French-Tunisian “B.A” contained 128 kg of drugs hidden in the four wheels of his car.
  • The car was seized and the smuggler was arrested for investigation which revealed that he worked for a gang active in Lyon, France, and Algeria, as well as exporting and selling drugs in the two countries.
  • Investigation also exposed the other members of the trafficking network including “S.A” who is an Algerian living in France and whose task is to move to Algiers accompanied by the Tunisian “B.A” to continue the smuggling process at the Algiers port.
  • The 2 Algerians still at large “S.A” and “J.A”  are now wanted by the security services. They are  regarded as the most dangerous members of this international drug trafficking cell consisting of French, Tunisian, Moroccan and Algerian drug smugglers.
