Two Algerians Killed During Quebec Mosque Terror Attack
Two Algeria are dead after the terrorist attack against the Islamic Cultural Center in the Canadian province of Quebec, while they were performing the evening prayers.
Spokesman of the Algerian Foreign Ministry, Abdelaziz Ben Ali Al-Sharif told the Algerian Press Services (APS), the two Algerians were among the victims of the terrorist attack in Quebec.
“According to preliminary information that was gathered by the General Consulate in Montreal with members of the Algerian community, there were two Algerians in the list of the victims who were killed in the attack against the Islamic Cultural Center”.
“Ambassador of Algeria to Ottawa and the General Consul in Montreal is in constant contact with the Canadian federal authorities and the authorities in Quebec as well, in order to confirm this information and collect details about the identity of the five injured, who are suffering dangerous wounds”.
Since the early hours of Monday, the social media pages like Algerians of Canada, published news about the death of two Algerians, one of them is a butcher in the same neighborhood called the Izz al-Din, but Echorouk was unable to obtain more information, despite the repeated calls to the Foreign Ministry, while the second victim is likely to be named Khalid BelKasmi, whose family lives in the capital, Algiers, according to the same sources.
Later the French-speaking newspaper “Le Journal de Quebec” said that a list of six victims was handed over to the security services to the representatives of the Muslim community in Quebec, adding that among the victims there are Algerians, a Tunisian, a Moroccan and another from Africa.
Other sources among the Algerian community in Montreal said that the first victim is called Kercem Hassan .
Echorouk failed on Monday to obtain confirmation or denial from the Foreign Ministry, and despite its attempts to contact the Consulate of Algeria in Montreal, which remained, but the phone rung many times without response.
Echorouk contacted the media cell of the Quebec Security Services, and the Communications Officer replied that she could not grant any details on the nationalities of the victims so far, noting that the police services will organize a press conference in the evening to provide details of the terrorist attack and the identities and nationalities of the victims and the injured.
