Two tons of drugs seized south of Algeria
Elements of the border guards thwarted an attempt to smuggle 5.1897 kg of drugs in a region between Ghare Djbilat and Hassi Ennaka in Tindouf, South of Algeria, which is a border region with Mauritania. They also arrested a trafficker and refused to reveal his identity.

The media cell of the national gendarmerie presented details of the case based on information available to the border guards who prepared last Wednesday an ambush which resulted in the arrest of a smuggler who was on board of a car type “station” at about 11 am. He was smuggling 14 kg of the Moroccan cannabis.

Information available to Echorouk, show that the third regional command of Bechar, south of Algeria, issued instructions to intensify control in the border localities, particularly, in both Bechar and Tindouf, South of Algeria during the week end which coincided with the presidential elections because the traffickers sought to exploit the preoccupation of the security services to smuggle the drugs through Tindouf, south of Algeria.

Official sources at the border guards body which belong to the national gendarmerie told Echorouk, instructions were directed to the border guards in order to show more vigilance and thwart the attempts to smuggle large quantities of drugs by the trafficking networks in this period which noticed the harvest of the Moroccan cannabis and because the Moroccan government impose a period storage before destroying it, which obliged the traffickers to smuggle it as fast as possible.

The national gendarmerie tightened the activity and moves of the smugglers, particularly in the south western borders, because they work in coordination with the terrorist groups and support them, according to the confessions of the Malian smuggler who was arrested in the operation of Hassi Khebi in Bechar.
