U.S. Congress Offers Services To Resolve Libya, Western Sahara Crises

Meeting of Algeria Parliament delegation with members of the US Congress was fruitful, Vice President of the National People’s Council, Djamel Bouras, said.

“Both parties discussed several topics that will boost the bilateral relationships of the two countries. Members of the US Congress have expressed willingness of the US administration to resolve the outstanding issues like the crises of Libya and Western Sahara, and a visit to the region by US officials is unlikely to be programmed in the near term.

Mr. Djamel Bouras, who was part of the Algerian delegation to Washington, told Echorouk, on Sunday, that the talks were overshadowed by the big files of common interest, like secret immigration and counter terrorism, which threatens all the countries.

“US officials arrived at the conviction that Algeria is a strategic ally to guarantee the stability and security of the region despite the tremors that reached several countries”.

“Americans expressed their willingness to cooperate with Algerian officials, especially in the Libyan file, which is Algeria is pledging to resolve, in accordance with the approach of non-interference in the internal affairs of this neighbor, which is suffering difficult security conditions after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime”.

“We also discussed the last colony in Africa, and the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination. Algeria has its own vision and calls to resolve the crisis that is outstanding since years ago, but without classifying it as a party in the Moroccan-Western Sahara conflict, as it is claimed by the Moroccan media.

“Algeria would not be concerned with the actions that were taken since days by the US President Donald Trump, which is drawing up a list of seven states that are banned from entering the American soil”.

“The economic side was in the heart of the debate, as members of the Congress spoke about the reactivation of the partnership and cooperation through the launch of new investment projects in the fields of agriculture, industry and the pharmaceutical industry in particular”.
