Uganda: Algeria, Tunisia Dominate Africa Tourney

ALGERIA and Tunisia dominated in the respective men and women Africa weightlifting championships that concluded Thursday with the awarding of the trophies.

Uganda lifted the junior women title and was third in the women youth competition in the event that attracted 15 countries at Imperial Royale Hotel. Algeria beat rivals Egypt in the senior category. Egypt had beaten them to the youth title earlier.

“You can see it was a tight competition,” said the assistant secretary general of the continental body weightlifting Federation Muhammed Juma while reading out the results.

In the women category, Tunisia, who had finished third in the junior women category went on to lift the women senior title. They beat South Africa , who finished second in all the three women categories of youth, junior and senior. Uganda has one accolade, the women junior title.
