A criminal court in Algiers Tuesday heard terrorists involved in a plan to blow up the US embassy’s headquarters in Algeria. They are prosecuted for raising panic and insecurity atmosphere.

The case goes back to March 2014. A man was arrested in Algiers following a minutes prepared by counterterrorism forces. The US embassy had informed them that terrorist groups plan to explode its headoffice.

An investigation was opened and the suspect was arrested. He denied those allegations, saying he had gone to the embassy just to inquiry about visa procedures.

He told investigators that he knew a man speaking Syrian as he had been in Algiers with his friend. The man made an offered to the suspect in the name of the embassy to work as a “spy” for it.

The suspect also said he contacted the embassy and made a deal with it. He was asked to collect information about attackers who threatened to target the embassy. Yet, he rejected the offer. Because of that, the embassy accused him of planning to explode the headquarters.

The suspect’s partner was also arrested. He denied all the accusations and said his relationship with the suspect has been cut for a long time. He alleged that he was accompanied with the Syrian man just for business purposes.
