Volkswagen, Renault, Peugeot To Raise Cars Production in Algeria

Volkswagen Algeria factory in Ghelizan province (western Algeria), prepared a plan to project 15.000 cars in 2017, as a first experiment, in the beginning of June, it will produce Golf, Ibiza, Cady, and Skoda Octavia, while it will start the hiring of employees, by the beginning of next Sunday, by using ANEM registered.

Renault Algeria in Oran province (western Algeria), will produce 60.000 cars to the end of the year, while there are oscillating negotiations between Peugeot Algeria, which is not yet signed, about a production capacity that is ranging between 75.000 and 100.000 cars annually.

General Manager of Sovac, which is the official partner of Volkswagen Algeria, Mourad Oulmi, told Echorouk, on the sidelines of the visit of the Industry Minister to the factory of installing cars in Ghelizan, that Volkswagen will produce 15.000 cars in 2017, and its production will rise to 150.000 cars, and it will include, at the beginning, the four types that are agreed upon, then it will be expanded late.

“Cars’ price will be less than the Volkswagen car that is imported from abroad”.

For his part, General Manager of Renault Algeria, Bernard Sonilhac, said; “We prepare for the production of 60.000 cars in Algeria in 207, to meet the intense demand of customers, as it will include Renault cars like: Symbol, Sandero, Stepway and even Clio 4”, as the Industry Minister announced on launching of its local manufacture in Oued Telilat factory in Oran, in the beginning of the current year.

“We do not yet determine Clio 4  car price nor when it will be officially launched, while the factory’s production since it formally entered into service, produced at least 60.000 vehicles, of which 42.000 vehicles were produced in 2016, which is a high figure, which came in response to the large demand of the market”.

In contrast, the General Manager of the Turkish dealer “Martur”, Okan Ayhan, which is a company for handling and is specialized in the production of car seats, announced that his factory, which is based in Oran, has provided Renault in 2016 with 15.000 seats, and has prepared a program for supplying it, during the current year with 40.000 seats, to raise the proportion of local production, as ordered by the Algerian government.

Industry and Mines Minister, Abdesslam Bouchouareb, asserted during his visit to Oran, on Sunday, that the volume of cars that are produced locally will rise by 2019 to 300.000 cars, and returned to confirm that the project of Peugeot factory has not yet reached a final agreement.
