Voting Massively to Block Chaos, Foreign Intervention, Bouteflika
“Say your word, never let others decide on your future,” President Abdelaziz Bouteflika said Thursday addressing tens of workers and citizens who crowded the sport hall in the oil-refining city of Arzew, in Oran province, on the occasion of the celebrations of the nationalisation of hydrocarbons day.
President Bouteflika mentioned that the upcoming election rendezvous of 10th May is a crucial moment in the history of the North African nation, saying “I’m not exaggerating if I said that in case the next elections failed, the reliability of the Algeria abroad will be shaken, because we won’t be alone on the D-Day of elections; the whole world will be watching us!”
“The mass participation in the upcoming elections will block any foreign intervention (…) and if you succeeded, then God has saved you from what’s been hidden!”
He frankly declared that “Societies don’t progress with chaos and disunity, but rather with constructive opinion and creative action; unity and solidarity behind big national goals,” adding “We have to get used to these situation, as not to be affected with; it’s time to make a quality change in mentalities and general behaviours; it’s time to make rupture with all kind of indifference and apathy.”
President Bouteflika further warned election fraudsters, saying: “This elections are not like the previous ones; they are to give birth to a multipartism and democratic parliament, of which main task is to amend the constitution,” adding that “this election would be th message of Algerians to the world, and I made sure to give instructions as to respect the law and rigidly implement it on those involved in fraud, because I won’t tolerate to play with the reliability of the country.”
He further mentioned that “the reliability of our justice will be under test, thus the magistrates in charge of monitoring the election will be called to prove such reliability and reinforce the role of justice in the consecration of democracy.”
“Political parties and civil society movement are responsible for mobilising the people to head massively to polls,” Mr President insisted.
Finally, President Bouteflika evoked the Arab Spring and wind of change blowing on the region. “We were the first to adopt democracy; we went through hard moment, which we managed to overcome without the help of nobody, and today, if you want change, then do it through elections and chose those who merit you trust,” he said, adding “the people are aware of the seriousness of these moments, and they won’t be dragged behind the disastrous fallacies and false comparisons that would bring them back to the wiped out era which has been overcome forever!”
At this moment, a worker among the audience shouted saying: “We want you to remain President of all Algerians,” and Bouteflika replied: “Thank you! But you should know that eternity is for God, not for human beings or posts!”
