Washington: Cooperation relationships with Algeria reached maturity stage

Chief counterterrorism advisor to U.S. President Barack Obama John Brennan praised Algeria’s efforts in reforms while US Under Secretary for Political Affairs William Burns said partnership between the US and Algeria are credible and trustful.â€
- Daniel Benjamin, Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the US State Department said he appreciates Algeria’s efforts in the Sahel region to fight terrorism and cooperation between both countries reached maturity stage.
- Algerian foreign minister Mourad Medelci Tuesday presented the reforms program which was announced by President Abdelaziz Bouetflika on April 15th.
- Medelci is on a two-day visit to Washington upon invitation from US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
- He also talked about the road map suggested by the African Union to find a peaceful solution to the conflict in Libya.
- “Algeria totally respected the UN Security Council’s resolutions,” Medelci said stressing the impotance of preserving Libya’s unity and ceasefire.
- In his meeting with Daniel Benjamin, the foreign minister said he was satisfied about the development of Algerian-American cooperation in countering terrorism.
- He also said weapons and money transfer in the Sahel may encourage terrorism due to the Libyan crisis.
- He believes that cooperation in the region to fight terrorism is necessary following a meeting of joint operational staff committee held in late April.
