Weak Response to the Strike for “Dignity” in Education Sector

National Union of Education and Training Workers said the rate of people who responded to the strike of “dignity” in its first day reached 67% at the national level, while the ministry asserted for its part that it did not exceed 10%, at a time the union decides to continue the open-ended strike after the ministry ‭refused to sign on the basic law on users of the sector. ‬

The National Secretary in charge of Communication at the NUETW (UNAPAF), Messaoud Amraoui, told Echorouk that the largest rate of the first day strike that is called “dignity” occured in Telemcen (west of Algeria) with 67%, asserting at the same time that the NUETW (UNAPAF) decided to continue the protest, because the meeting which brough together on Saturday, the union with the Ministry of Education at the invitation of Abou Bakr Ben Bouzid, in order to continue the negociations, did not bring positive results regarding the demand concerning the postponement of the signing pf the executive decree containing the basic law on the users of the sector.

For its part, informed sources from the Ministry of National Education told Echorouk that the rate of response to the strike, which was organized by the NUETW on the first day did not exceed 10% at the middle schools and 4% at the primary schools. Announcing zero% of response in Bejaia, Tizi Ouzou (east of Algiers), and Relizane (west of Algeria), compared to 1% in the primary schools and 8% in the middle schools of Chlef (west of Algeria), and 2% in the primary and middle schools the of Laghouat (west of Algeria). In Tiaret (western Algeria) the rate of response in the primary schools reached 0%, and 1% in the middle schoolst.
