Yasser Arafat poison claim: No plans to exhume body
Palestinian officials say there are no plans to exhume Yasser Arafat’s body despite a TV documentary reigniting debate over whether he was poisoned.
Swiss Sceintists say the radioactive material polonium-210 was present on belongings given to the Palestinian leader’s widow after his death in 2004. She objected to a post-mortem at the time, but now wants his body exhumed. Arafat’s medical records say he had a stroke resulting from a blood disorder. Many Palestinians continue to believe Arafat was poisoned by Israel, which saw Arafat as an obstacle to peace and had put him under house arrest. Israel has denied any involvement.
