Algerian Minister of State and Interior, Yazid Zerhouni, told Echorouk that the arms used by the terrorist groups in their criminal operations enter across the southern borders coming from the African Sahel region.

 

  • Zerhouni also told Echorouk Friday, during the visit by the president Bouteflika, that the weapons used by the GSPC or AQIM are smuggled across the Algeria borders.

  • Previously, the Malian security services announced the arrest of the commander of the military operations and logistic support for the terrorist groups, confirming that the detainee is very close to Abdelahmid Abou Zeid, leader in the terrorist group, pointing to the existence of requests from countries to hear to the testimony of four Mauritanians who were also arrested.

  • The Minister of State said the Algerian government has information in this regard, confirming that the results revealed by the investigations with the terrorists who were   arrested by the Malian security services last week show their plan which took the advantage of the Algerian large southern borders to smuggle weapons.

  • Zerhouni did not confirm, as he did not denied, that the Algerian government asked the Bamako’s government to hand over the Algerian terrorists, also leader in the GSPC who was arrested in the clash between the Malian army and the four terrorists belonging to the same terrorist group on last Sunday, in order to benefit from the information in his possession regarding the terrorist activity south of Algeria.

  • The arrested terrorists are involved in the kidnapping of four Europeans including two Canadian diplomats in both Niger and Mali earlier this yea, before releasing them last April 22, while a British and a Swiss hostages are still waiting for release, in time the U.S centre, specialized in the follow-up of sites of terrorist groups announced last 26 April that the kidnappers threatened to kill the two hostages if the their Mufti (fellow) the Jordanian Abou Qatada, now in a British detention, is not released.
