10 Algerian illegal immigrants missing off Spanish coast
Ten Algerian illegal immigrants were reported lost and six others were rescued in Almeria coasts, south of Spain after they had tried to reach the country on a fishing boat along with sub-Saharan African migrants, Echorouk has learnt.
- According to Spanish coast guards, the immigrants were on a fishing boat. Their number was estimated at 53 including 16 Algerians.
- Investigations show that they started off from the city of Nadhour in Morocco before they the bad weather and high waves had surprised them.
- A total of 22 of them drowned including 10 Algerians and 12 sub-Saharan Africans.
- The coast guards who were reinforced by a helicopter rescued the surviving immigrants. Of them, there were six Algerians. They had been notified by a ship o its way to a Moroccan port.
