A total of 100,000 Algerians gave up their dream of buying a car due to delivery delay after domiciliation had been frozen and importing-related problems, according to figures.

Mohamed Bairi, a member of the accredited car dealers’ association told Echorouk a car exhibition due to be organized in December in Oran was cancelled. Sales went down in the last few months.

He added that there is still pressure on dealers to freeze domiciliation and retain vehicles in ports. This comes in spite of promises to free importing.

“The market is frozen and people do not care about buying cars anymore,” he said.

According to chairman of multi-brand dealers’ association Youcef Nebache, figures show that 100,000 cancelled their orders to buy a car as domiciliation has been frozen since April.

He added that the 20th edition of the International Car Fair may be cancelled this year as new car types will not be allowed to enter.

He explained that car prices increased due to the anarchy in market and the large number of vehicles stored in ports for months.
