Tens of wholesale wine shops and alcohol storing houses in the province of Oum Bouagui were searched in the beginning of this weekend. Security forces seized thousands of wine bottles at four wholesale shops. Although their owners have commercial registers, they work without a permit from security forces. Sale can not be done without permit and commercial registers are not enough. The number of seized bottles is estimated at more than 90,000.

Acording to communication attaché in Oum Bouagui, the first operation was the seizure of beer worth 33 million centimes in a garage in the town of Ain Mlila.

In Biskra province (south of Algiers), the National Gendarmerie forces seized an Atos car carrying alcohol. The car was heading for the province of El Oued (south of Algiers). When its driver knew about two check points waiting for him, he changed his way. He was chased and arrested. The seized car was rented from a private cars agency. One of the suspects is an executive and a teacher at a vocational training centre in El Oued.

Security forces also seized considerable quantities of alcohol in the province of Khenchla (east of Algiers) on the same day. They were transferred to jurisdictions.

Echorouk’s sources say the most important recent seizures are alcohol including Tunisian beer. The largest quantity was seized in the ports of Algiers and Oran (west of Algiers). Customs seized luxurious alcohol worth 200 billion.
