20 Christians convert into Islam in Kabylie
The number of new converts to Islam from Christianity appears on the rise as it reached 20 in 2010 in the provinces of Bejaia and Tizi Ouzou known as the Kabylie region, said communication official at Algerian religious affairs ministry.
- “The number of new converts has been remarkably increasing for the last few years. Their total number is estimated at 50 in the national level,” the official told Echorouk.
- “They come from different countries including Belgium, France and Germany. Some of them live outside the country and came to Algeria for holidays,” he added.
- An official at the religious affairs department denied that there was a licensed Christian association or sect in Bejaia. It did not receive any request from any association to practice prayers or open churches.
- He added that all the evangelisation associations are working without permit and secretly.
