20 terrorists to appear in court once again in Algeria

A court in Boumerdes (50 km east of Algiers) is expected to deal with the case of 20 terrorists early in December. They are accused of working for an armed terrorist group, arms possession, putting bombs in public route, forming an armed terrorist group, killing attempt and using explosives to target military barracks.

  • The case was postponed in the last two sessions as the suspects were in prisons in the country.

  • The case goes back to June 2006. It started on the basis of sure information about two men working for terrorist groups. One of them was arrested on June 7th in 2006 while the other was caught the day after.

  • Ahmed admitted that he has ties with terrorist groups in mountains and he has been a support element since summer 2005. His uncle F. Ibrahim and terrorist Omar. B. had asked him to buy food to terrorists. He told investigators he met terrorists Mohamed. A. and Karim. B. who asked him to keep watch on the Popular National Army in the area. Terrorist Moussa. C. also assigned him to put a hand-made bomb to soldiers in the area of Ain Halouf giving him 3,500DZ and six sim cards.

  • The arrested terrorist added that he excetuted the mission and was sure that the soldiers would pass by that way. Three day later, the bomb was blown out but without causing any victims. They decided to put a second bomb. Terrorist H. Omar was in charge of keeping watch on repentant terrorists who benefited from the Charter for Peace and Reconciliation. He got a gun to kill repentant terrorist Ali. C.
