20 thousands public health practitioners to take the streets on Thursday

The National Union of Medical Practitioners of Public Health (SNPSP) has decided breaching the social truce announced a year ago, after a 5 month-strike that frozen hospitals nationwide.

  • In fact, the union has called 20 000 doctors, dentists and alchemists to maintain minimum service along the different state run hospitals and clinics, in order to take the streets and hold two sit-ins; the first one near the Ministry of Health next Thursday, and the other one near the government office a week later.
  • The medical practitioners have also decided to start an unlimited strike together with resident-doctors, in case the Ministry of Health does not implement the year-long promises.
  • In this context, head of SNPSP, Lyes Merabet, said the union has decided to hold two sit-ins to protest the non-commitment of Ministry of Health with promises made a year ago. The Ministry of Health has promised to amend the status of public health practitioners, set up a compensation code and increase wages.
