21employees out of 34 embezzle 200 billion in western Algeria

Judicial police at security department of Tlemcen province (west of Algeria) have dismantled the most dangerous gang ever specialized in stealing public money using criminal methods. They used falsified official, banking and administrative documents and damaged mortgage delivered things. They swindled and cheated to obtain bank loans as well.

  • Suspects involved in this network are not just ordinary citizens but mostly employees of several public sectors ( banks, transport department, national agency for supporting and employing youths, health sector, the Institute of tourism and hotel business , Tlemcen municipality, Tlemcen province and tax department).

  • According to reliable sources, security forces dismantled this network on the basis of information on numerous irregularities in using bank loans. That’s why judicial police has been investigating for more than six months arresting 21employees from various public sectors. A total of 14 others including three women and federal secretary of a political party were also arrested.

  • Nature and quality of gangsters and their victims made judicial police elements put a good plan to catch them. Investigations showed that the mastermind, an employee of a public institution had divided the gang members into five groups. each group had a role to play, one in the national agency for supporting youth employment. It received files of fictitious beneficiaries to give loans to them while transport department were providing the network’s members with forged driving licences to fulfil their files. The third group ensured their administrative documents and falsified identity cards after stealing them from the citizens who came to take their administrative documents.

  • These discovered falsified files revealed many of those involved in stealing 200 billion centimes, which led authorities to summon victims who were shocked by these facts.

  • Two suspects appeared before a court in Tlemcen. Ten of them were put in provisional detention including four staff members while the others remain under judicial control.
