A total of 250,000 Algerians post advertisements on the Internet or newspapers to sell or rent their houses. This comes as the economic crisis is on the rise and the Public Treasury’s incomes are decreasing, a study finds.

A total of 60 percent of Algerians believe that the housing crisis in Algeria consists in the obligation of seeking rented houses at a price equal to their salary.

Lotfi Ramdani, the director of Al-Karya website which conducted the study, said the housing crisis in Algeria will not end unless 400,000 houses are delivered per year.

“This would make supply equal to demand and the crisis will be reduced,” he told Echorouk.

He admitted the government’s efforts to solve the housing crisis through AADL, LPP, social and rural houses.

He called for conducting a real study about the situation in Algeria to find out the reasons behind the housing crisis in all the provinces. This would help to find the best way to treat the problem.

“It is not important to build hundreds of thousands of houses without controlling the market and prices,” he said.

“A new study conducted by Al-Karya website shows that 60 percent of Algerians believe that the housing crisis is due to renting price,” he added.

He also said a house of 3 rooms in Algiers is rented at 60,000 DZ, 40,000 in big cities and 30,000 DZ in other provinces.

An apartment of 3 rooms in Algiers is sold at 1.7 billion centimes and 1.2 billion centimes in big cities.

“Those prices will not go down until supply increases and demand decreases,” said Ramdani.
