32% of Algeria's Working Women are Divorced

Economic crisis that hit Europe has negatively affected and often on European women, especially in Spain and Greece, Maria Angel Rock, Director of Culture and Civil Society at the European Institute of the Mediterranean Sea, said on Monday, during the presentation of the outcome of the study that was made by experts and specialists in the field, across 12 countries in the north and south of the Mediterranean, including Algeria.

For her part, Nadia Ait Zay, editor of the report on the reality of women in Algeria, which was prepared based on data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the percentage of women who are working in Algeria in the last census of the Institute reached two, while the private sector includes the vast majority of these women compared to the public sector.

“19% of the workforce in Algeria is represented by women with the number 2.288.000 women, while the university working women reached 70%. A remarkable development in this regard is observed compared to the past years.”

Same report shows that women in many cases, are forced to work because of the social situation, 32% of them are divorced, and 18% are single, while the proportion of working women who are married stood at only 11%.

It addressed education and qualification level for women in the field of employment, and the spokeswoman explained that 29,329 women benefited from the ENSEJ projects, accounting for 10% of the projects that were funded by this institution, as this ratio to remains very modest, while ANGEM funded 141,997 projects, with an average of 60%, especially with regard to projects that are related to the handicrafts and household works.

It also showed the existence of more than one million single women in Algeria, whose age exceeded 30 years, due to the delay in the marriage compared to last years.
