36 months left to solve housing crisis in Algeria
Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal Tuesday said the government will not construct 1 and 2-room-houses. “The State was wrong when it allowed to build such houses. In order to catch up this mistake, it is not allowed from son on to construct houses with less than 3 rooms.”
“In the past, we built 1-room-houses. This is unbelievable and unconceivable,” Sellal said in a seminar about manufacturing in construction.
He committed to eliminate housing crisis and shanty towns by 2018.
“The government’s five-year-plan will be concretized before the end of the current year. A million and 500 thousands houses will be built. This will not be done only if manufacturing in construction is resumes. This will be implemented before the end of 2014,” he said.
He stressed the necessity of signing partnership agreements with foreigners to benefit from their experience. He also said there is need to train Algerian manpower and encourage sub-contracting.
“The State will support any partner and investor in this field,” he added.
