40 thousand policemen to secure Algiers ahead of the march

Algiers’ local authorities have stiffened the security measures around the capital ahead of the march called for by the National Coordination for Change and Democracy ( NCCD). The security forces ordered the deployment of its troops around the official buildings, private and public companies to fend off the acts of vandalism like those occurred last month.

  • Reliable security source has indicated to “Echorok” that the number of troops deployed around Algiers has reached over 40 thousand elements dispatched on three groups that work on shift basis.

  • The first shift was summoned to work yesterday’s all night to be replaced by another group as of 6 O’clock in the morning until 7 pm and a third shift will be on duty starting from 7 pm until tomorrow morning

  • The same source has indicated that the Algerian police chief, Gen. Abdlghani Hamel has issued firm instructions ordering his elements to stay on duty and suspend their week holidays, while the alert level was raised to 2.

  • Clear and firm instructions were issued ordering not to use real bullets against the civilians at any case and limit to tear gas or blank bullets if necessary.

  • The police General Directorate has set up a crisis cell entrusted with monitoring the events and the latest developments of the march organized by the NCCD and some other opposition parties and civil associations.
  •  
  • The cell will be assigned the task to brief and make assessments on the latest developments of the march.
