About 5000 security agents working for state run hydrocarbons company Sonatrach have threatened to launch a strike and stop safeguarding oil and gas facilities, in case their claims relating to wage hikes are not met as soon as possible.

The guards signed a panel, of which Echorouk got a copy, saying that have recurrently filed their claims to Sonatrach main office, but they still have not got any reply.

Some of them said they do not have social insurance, as the company insures them for 8 hours a day only, while they work for 24 hours in a row for 15 days with a week off.

The security agents of Sonatrach require increasing their wages, “which remain the lowest among the employees in the hydrocarbons giant,” adding that they have been working temporarily since 1997, and it is time to be appointed on a permanent basis.

They claim also to be allotted an allowance for carrying arm, as they would be accountable in case they lost or misused it.
